Oversized Dress - Kakitsubata

£95.00

Handcrafted from vintage Japanese Yukata fabric, this oversized dress features a serene Kakitsubata (Japanese iris) motif, intertwined with delicate narrow bridges. Traditionally, these bridges were built for the purpose of admiring Kakitsubata, which thrive in shallow waters like ponds. One of the earliest imagery is famously captured in The Tales of Ise (circa 1770–1773), a classic of the Heian period.

One striking detail in the fabric’s design is the occasional red-marked iris, subtly drawing the viewer’s attention. The lightweight, high-quality cotton makes this dress effortlessly comfortable, perfect for wearing at home—or outside, as I would. Designed with minimal fabric waste, its straight-line construction reduces offcuts, and its one-size fit helps avoid overproduction.

One Size. Made to Order.
